Toms River North High School - Toms River School District in New Jersey
Finished Roof of Toms River North
Completed Spray Foam Application
on TRN Roof
Cutting electricity costs, reducing the school’s carbon
footprint, and re-roofing 13 buildings is a tall order
and, normally, an expensive one. Luckily, Toms River
School District received the package at no expense.
“American Clean Energy (ACE) designed and
installed the solar panels to not only reduce the
districts carbon footprint, but also to cut energy
costs,” said Piccione. Instead of charging the
district for the pricey install of the solar panels,
ACE provided the SPF roofing, and solar panel
installation, at no cost to the district. This was
provided under the understanding that the school
would honor a power purchase agreement (PPA). The
power purchase agreement states that the district
will pay ACE for the energy produced by the panels
for 15 years. During this time, the district will pay
ACE at a cheaper rate than their previous utility bill,
saving them money right away. After 15 years the
district will own the solar panels outright.
Toms River School District said goodbye to pricey
electric bills and insufficient insulation in October
2011. The district is now significantly reducing its
carbon footprint, effectively cutting energy costs,
and proudly showcasing 13 solar-covered, spray
polyurethane foam roofs.
